HubSpot sequences can only be started for contacts that have an email address. In LinkedIn campaigns the email is often missing – which is exactly why you reach out via LinkedIn. The solution: build your cadence as a HubSpot workflow instead of a sequence. Workflows work without any email address.
The problem: fixed timing
In a workflow, steps usually run at fixed times (e.g. "message on day 3"). If the connection request is still in the backlog or hasn't been accepted yet, the LinkedIn message can't be sent. The workflow keeps going anyway – and the order of your messages gets mixed up.
The solution: "wait until the task has been completed"
Outreach Master works with HubSpot tasks. A task is only marked completed once the LinkedIn action (e.g. connection request or message) has actually been carried out. If the workflow waits for exactly that after each task, the cadence runs in the right order for every contact – just like the "pause sequence until task is completed" option in sequences.
Step by step in the HubSpot workflow
- Create the task: Add a Create task action (e.g. LinkedIn connection request via Outreach Master).
- Add a delay: Click + right after the task and choose Delay.
- Delay type: Choose Until an event occurs.
- Data source: Select Output from earlier action in this workflow and pick the task you just created.
- Condition: Event type Has completed, property Task status, new value Completed.
- Set a timeout (recommended): Enable "Continue to the next action if a contact doesn't complete the event within a certain period" (e.g. 14 days), so contacts don't get stuck forever – for example when a connection request is never accepted.
- Add the next step: Only then add the next task (e.g. the first LinkedIn message) – again followed by the same delay.
Example flow
- Task: send connection request → wait until completed
- Optional: a fixed 1–2 day delay so the message doesn't arrive right after acceptance
- Task: LinkedIn message 1 → wait until completed
- Task: LinkedIn message 2 → wait until completed
Tips
- Send connection requests without a note – it usually converts better, and free LinkedIn accounts can only send a few requests with a note per month. See LinkedIn limits.
- If the email address becomes known later, you can branch in the workflow and add emails as well.
